Hand Jive: To Salute or To Put Hand Over Heart During the National Anthem: Which is it?

These are a few things I learned today about saluting, puttin’ my hand over my heart, and stuff during a photo op during the National Anthem.  First, I found out from bear57 that there are a few things to know about hand puttin’ while a picture is being taken.   Bear57 says,  “IT DOESN’T MATTER EITHER WAY IT’S A SHOW OF DISRESPECT FROM A MAN THAT HAS SWORN TO UPHOLDING OUR FREEDOMS & CONSTITUTION!”

Obama told the questioner the picture was actually taken during a playing of the national anthem and said, “During the Pledge of Allegiance you put your hand over your heart, during the National Anthem you sing.”

“This is the classic dirty trick of the campaign,” Obama said later Wednesday at an event in Cedar Rapids. — CNN

“Modern custom does NOT require putting the hand over the heart during the Anthem,” says Snoop.com….but it doesn’t matter says bear57:  http://savetheconstitutionandamerica.wordpress.com/2012/09/09/not-saluting-no-respect-for-our-flag/

    • T W From here on out, we shall stone all those unpatriotic singers who don’t salute our flag while singing the anthem.

    • Don N Not to mention the divas who make a spectacle of it and themselves while not having enough talent to render it respectably.

    • Terry Gresham Is it alright to salute during the Anthem while not singing? I am guilty of that, I’m sorry to say.

    • Don N. Is it right to leave out “one nation under god” while saying the pledge. I do that. It was a recent addition and has nothing to do with the original intent. All these litmus tests are designed to delineate between the “real Amurican” and those that are not. Screw the tests.

    • Terry Gresham If this would have been during the pledge the others in the photo would have been equally “Communists” since they are not facing the photo’s flag.

    • TW that whole page is BS. they describe being a community organizer as a socialist activity. Yes…helping poor people ban together to fight for their right to heat, running water and functioning plumbing in the homes they PAY RENT on….that’s socialism at its finest.

Saluting is usually the venue of active and reserve military. Private citizens and politicians put the right hand over the heart.
