Rick Santorum Bad at Math

by Terry Gresham

I'm this many.

Prior to the Iowa Caucus, Republican Presidential hopeful Rick Santorum spoke to an audience of white supporters, saying:

“I don’t want to make black people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money. I want to give them the opportunity to go out and earn the money…”

Quick, somebody tell Rick Santorum that of the people in Iowa on welfare, white-Americans (somewhere around 58.6 percent) outnumber African-Americans receiving aid.  African-Americans on welfare number about 15.9 percent of folks on assistance in Iowa.  Nationwide, the numbers are about equal.  So, this should mean that even in Iowa, numbers should count for something, like supporting a genuine thought… anything.  If I had hair to spare, I’d pull it. It’s just that the numbers are flipped in his flawed calculations.  Rick might have been much closer to correct by stating: “I don’t want to make white people’s lives better by giving them somebody else’s money…”and so forth.

There, that at least fixes the math—.not much I can do about the shallowness.  However, in the future, if he’s going to dig himself a career out of asinine comments then he might as well learn to at least make the numbers fit the bullshit.

It’s simple math  (58.6 > 15.9)  However, Rick is a political leader, not a mathematician.  It’s sad but true, but in this country, public office servants are not sworn in by making them solve problems with the quadratic equation.  They’re not even required to know the difference between rational and irrational numbers (nor between rational and irrational members of Congress for that matter)   There is no mathematical test for office in the US—nothing in the constitution. That’s great news for Rick because he sucks at numbers.Had Rick been interested in learning prior to becoming a sick racist prick, he could have spoken slightly less, shall we say, stupidly.  But there he is. What’s he paying his staff for? Help the guy out.  Please, someone call a tutor. Because as Eukleides put it, “The laws of nature are but the mathematical thoughts of God.”   Yet, here before us is a man, Rick Santorum, running at the national level for the highest office, King of Bizarro World,  no, US Commander in Chief.  Help him, somebody.Rick, after his tragic comment, quickly did not apologize to America on The O’Reilly Factor.  He said this about a new demographic, the “blah” people:

“I looked at that, and I didn’t say that. If you look at it, what I started to say is a word and then sort of changed and it sort of — blah — came out. And people said I said ‘black.’ I didn’t…”

Sounds like math isn’t the only thing Rick is bad at. So kids, let Rick be a lesson to us all:  get a good education, learn about the world outside your own blinders, and find something to do that you’re good at—Rick can’t even lie worth a damn.
