The Republican Party and its newly crowned presumptive nominee Willard ‘Mitt’ Romney are seeking to alienate every segment of our society possible it seems. Students, women, workers, the poor and disadvantaged, minorities, immigrants are all not welcome in the ranks of the GOP, that is unless they have enough money to contribute substantially to Mitt’s run for the presidency.
But, true to the tenets laid down by Karl ‘Turd Blossom’ Rove they deny everything. Or maybe they are more like Sergeant Schultz in the 60’s sit-com ‘Hogan’s Heroes’ – they see nothing! they see nothing!
For them there is no War on Women, even as they mouth the words they go full-speed ahead with that war. They seek to control every aspect of a woman’s life. Political operatives from both sides of the aisle shakes their heads in dismay at the seemingly total disconnect that the Grand Old Party of Lincoln has with facts and the truth. In much the same scenario of the epic poem by Rudyard Kipling ‘The Gods of the Copybook Headings’ they deny the existence of everything they say or do, despite the proliferation of video tapes to the contrary. It just didn’t happen.
The scary part of all of this is that there are millions of our fellow citizens out there who seem to be with them and in total denial about facts that are undisputed. Hitler would be astounded that in the nation that brought him down to defeat there exists a core group of fascist leaning citizens who are seeking to take our nation down the same path that Hitler lead Germany down in the 30’s much to the terrible regret of not only Germans themselves but to the rest of world as well.
They seem to believe that there are enough Americans out there who either don’t care or agree with their tactics that they will be able to win the presidency, take back the Senate and keep the House of Representatives. A lot of polls that are coming out suggests that they might just be right. That begs the question why?
The economy is growing, albeit slowly, it is getting better. Job growth is such that we as a nation have added more than 3 million jobs over the past 3 years. True there are still millions that are out of work, but the economy is getting better, the recession has ended and things are looking up for the first time in nearly 4 years. And we got our number one enemy, Osama bin Laden.
With that rosy scenario any other president in our history would be a shoo-in for re-election. The party of no would normally be assured, due to the fact that they have created total gridlock inside the beltway, of losing enough seats to be ousted from power, but no that isn’t happening? Why?
No matter how many times it is denied there is only one answer to those questions. That answer is – Barack Obama is Black. The things he has done to re-ignite the economy and put people back to work would be hailed as a major accomplishment were he George Bush the Greater or the Lessor. His taking out of bin Laden would have elevated any other president to the status of hero of the nation.
But, not Barack Obama. He has one flaw – he is Black. We elected a Black president into office and now the forces of darkness are desperately seeking to get him out of office and restore balance to the universe. They are loathe to attack him with the bigotry and prejudice that they all are hiding in their souls and hearts, because it would show them up for what and who they are.
No they can’t call him out for being Black, because that would mean they are exactly what we all know they are – racists. So they deny. Deny! Deny! The moon ain’t stilton. The day ain’t bright. They sun don’t shine. As the old Willie Nelson song said, for them ‘The sun is cold as ice and gives no warmth at all; the sky was never blue; the stars are raindrops searching for a place to fall, an Barack Obama we never cared for you!’
But, wait they can’t say that! At least not so as it gets into the light of day, because then they would have to admit they are bigoted and racist in their minds, hearts and souls and that would spell certain defeat for Willard ‘Mitt’ Romney.
In the year 2012 we are facing a dilemma of conscience. Forty-nine years after Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr’s ‘I Have A Dream’ speech bigotry and racism are alive and well and engrained in the politics of a party so deeply that they would take this country down rather than work with a president who is half-African American and half Irish! It is an utterly appalling state of affairs! How can men and women of good conscience refuse to do what is right for their country?
Where have all the heroes gone? Have they deserted in favor of the shadowy Koch Brothers. Seems to be so. Too bad but, the heroes of old, Lou Gehrig, Babe Ruth and Jolting Joe DiMaggio are dead and gone. Hey, hey hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey, hey!” —– Bob Bearden
