Muskogee VA office first in Okla. to fall victim to government shutdown

MUSKOGEE, Okla. – The first veterans affairs office has fallen victim to the government shutdown.

The VA office in Muskogee is now closing all operations deemed “non-essential.”

It’s the largest of the VA’s 56 regional offices.

It’s also the home to the VA’s only call center which is responsible for responding to education benefit questions.

The office director said payment for compensation, pension, education and vocational rehab programs will continue through the end of the month.

However, if the shutdown continues, payment will stop when the funding runs out.

The office’s health care services are still funded and will remain open through Sept. 2014.
