One Response to Deficit Reduction

  1. DK Fennell says:

I’m wondering whether you are making this claim to their honor or to their shame. One of them “reduced the deficit” during the worst recession since the Great Recession, thereby making it last longer and deeper than it had any need to. The other parlayed his tax hike so politically ineptly that he lost the Democratic house the next election. (The Republicans ran on him increasing taxes, not decreasing National Debt.) Both took the Democratic party increasingly to the right. Both abandoned the Democratic Party’s traditional support for a full employment economy and for social justice. Both presided over major reductions in help for the poor, children, sick, elderly.

So, yeah, they presided over a deficit reduction. Don’t expect Mt. Rushmore to have two new heads on it any time soon, however.
